It is secured by reinforced hinges and a lid support that holds the writing surface steady. The console has a huge storage compartment, perfect for small tools, paperwork, cell phones, etc. Oversized dual adjustable cup holders secure different sizes cups and bottles. A special bottom mount strap allows for center seatbelt mounting.
